Facebook

The article that I chose is " Over 3 years later, "deleted" Facebook pictures are still online" This aritcle was pushlished Tuesday Feburary 7, 2012. The publisher was Jacqui Cheng.

This article talks about the world that we all basically live in now. Facebook. It has become almost a ritual for kids and now adults. It is a great social network that has its ups and downs. Its ups are that it is a great way to communicate. For example if you have no been in contact or seen someone in a while you still can be connected through facebook. Its downs are talked about in the article http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/06/tech/social-media/deleted-facebook-photos-online/index.html. The summary of this article is something that I believe that many people do not realize but should be educated in. People do not understand that when you delete a photo on facebook it is not really gone. It is off of Facebook but there is a way that the photo can still be accessed. This is due to the content delivery network. Facebook has said that they have been working on it to "signifcanty reduce the amount of time that backup copies persist." That is basically saying they are trying to make it so that the photos get deleted quicker so that there is no way to access them. After 3 years of them saying that the photos many people deleted could still accessed. They are now trying to make it so that the photo will be completely deleted in 45 days. This article states that they will keep in contact with Facebook until this problem comes to a complete stop.

I can greatly relate to this article. I think most college kids can. I believe that everyone has at least one photo that they wish was never posted or even never taken. I never really knew that it was never completely gone one it was deleted. I figured that once it could not be found on Facebook but I was wrong. Seeing as though I believed that im sure that many others are not aware of this problem. As my generation grows older we are trying to find jobs. And because of how popular Facebook is, jobs are starting to use Facebook to see how people that they are going to hire are outside of the workplace. This has been a very big reason of people not getting jobs lately. I feel as though if people were aware of that then they would make smarter decision on what pictures that they posted onto Facebook.
