Pele talking about Lionel Messi
The 24-year-old Messi already has won three straight FIFA Player of the Year awards.
"When Messi's scored 1,283 goals like me, when he's won
three World Cups, we'll talk about it," Pele told Le Monde. "Football
changes. Records are there to be broken, but it will be hard to break mine.
"People always ask me: 'When is the new Pele going to be
born?' Never. My father and mother have closed the factory."
Although many observers consider Pele or Diego
Maradona to be the greatest ever, Messi's form for Barcelona has him being
mentioned in the same group.
Messi scored 55 goals in 2011 for Barcelona and already has
213 in 300 games for the club, 22 shy of Cesar Rodriguez's team record for
goals. Messi is the club's leading scorer in the Champions
League, scoring in victories over Manchester United in the 2009 and 2011
finals.
I agree that Messi is one of the greatest player ever to play the game of soccer, although I think that Cristiano Ronaldo should be put in the same list as Messi, Pele, and Diego Maradona. I am also a very big soccer fan and watch many games. I do think that Messi is one of the best, but he does not have all of the traits that Cristiano Ronaldo has including moves and shot speed.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that you chose to write about a soccer player. I myself used to play soccer but quit as a sophmore. By you picking Pele this must mean that you are passionate about the sport and that is great! I also think it is interesting that you grew up in Medford and now live in Tewksbury because i grew up in Malden and now live in Billerica. What a small world. From reading your blog I would guess that Pele was an very good soccer player, although I do not know much about soccer. I hope that you will always stay interested in soccer because of how much you seem interested in it.
