Blog #2

Taylor Therrien "Over 3 years later, "deleted" Facebook photos are still online" Written by: Jacqui Cheng Published on Tuesday Feb 7th, 2012 This article is solely self explanatory after reading the title. Photos that are posted on Facebook and deleted are, in-fact, remaining online and accessible YEARS after the photo was "deleted". You can not see the photo by trying to view it on someone's profile, but however, if you do have the link - you can still view it. Yes, I realize that people are disgusted that such an advancing site can not find a way to delete the old photos and that people's privacy can be at stake. Photos posted online and deleted should not be able to be viewed again. But however, I also realize that this is truly not Facebook's fault. The internet is no holy roller when it comes to invading other's privacy. When you post anything on the internet, you should ALWAYS make sure before you post it that you don't care who sees it. The internet is it's own world and any key stroke that you make online can be seen by someone, somewhere. Yes- I feel bad for the folks who want their photographs down so badly just because I know how that feels. But no- it's not Facebook's fault. They are the ones who posted the photographs, they should have never posted it if they weren't confident that they did not care who saw it.
We have been working hard to move our photo storage to newer systems which do ensure photos are fully deleted within 45 days of the removal request being received
Says Facebook's spokesperson Frederic Wolens. Maybe, sometime in the near or far future. This problem will be fixed. But regardless whether this is or is not fixed, this should be a rude wake up call to everybody that they should make sure what they are posting is truly what they want EVERYONE to see. So for now, I guess I would personally apologize to the people, but tell them straight out that they can not just hold this against Facebook. Every website has glitches or difficulties, and this one has to be fixed.
