Facebook is a word that we all have come to know and love. When you hear the word facebook, you may think of a video or someones pictures that you once saw on their webpage. However, did you know that on Facebook, the pictures that you put up are never really gone, even if you have deleted them off your page? With 250 million photos uploaded every day, there is bound to be something that someone doesn’t want up there. So what if you don’t want this picture on the internet? Well it’s too bad! So why are the photos still up on the internet once they are deleted? In an article from (http://www.popphoto.com/news/2012/02/your-facebook-photos-may-never-be-deleted-there-might-be-new-way-to-view-them) it says, “Ars Technica discovered a glitch wherein once a user deleted a photo from their Facebook account, the image might still exist on the company's servers--and could still be accessible via a direct link possibly forever.”
After many started to complain about these pictures that are still accessible on Facebook, the company ended up taking action, however, “…In the 3 years since the glitch was discovered many “deleted” images are still accessible. When asked why these images are still available, Facebook gave a similar response, admitting that their older content storage systems don’t always delete images from networks in a reasonable period of time.”
Being a college football player, and a future entrepreneur in the business world, I don’t want any pictures on the internet which can lead to me getting kicked off the football team, or getting refused at a future job site because of the pictures I took years ago. One thing I was always told, by my high school teachers, and coaches was, “Don’t get caught on camera with any kind of alcohol in your hand on Facebook, it will never go away.” Whenever I am getting a picture taken, I always make sure there is no alcohol in the picture on any of my friends. “The company says that only about 2 percent of user photos are still on the old system, and that the newer system is supposed to ensure that photos are fully removed within 30 days after being deleted by a Facebook user.”
I agree with what you are saying when you are relating too playing a sport and having pictures on facebook. Being an athlete myself you can never be too careful with what you post on the internet. I think that it is crazy that even when you think a picture is gone it really is not completely gone. It makes people question what is really on the internet. Now with people trying to get jobs and having facebook pictures influence it you can never be too careful. This problem should have been solved when it was first brought to facebooks attention instead of still being an issue 3 years later. After reading this article I think that you could agree with me that you and I will both question what pictures we put on facebook. Seeing as we both want a good career and think highly of the sport that we are involved in. I enjoyed reading your outlook on the article and I think that you put it very well.
